THE MARCH 19 PROGRAM WILL BE CANCELLED AT THIS TIME. WE HOPE TO RESCHEDULE THIS PROGRAM. WE WILL SEND UPDATES ON THIS PROGRAM AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. PLEASE READ OUR INFORMATION REGARDING THIS PROGRAM BELOW. THANK YOU!

Dear National Capital Area Members,

Out of an abundance of caution, we have made the difficult decision of postponing our March 19th lunch meeting until further notice.  Health officials have urged that any large gathering be canceled or postponed and have recommended the same for any “non-essential” small gatherings.  While what we do at the FPA is important, we do not think it is essential to push forward with meeting next week.  As we have watched this progress, we have decided that our members’ health and safety should be our top priority.  For those that were counting on receiving the 1 CE Credit by the end of March, I recommend you take a look at the FPA National website to be able to earn that credit virtually - http://learning.onefpa.org/store/provider/custompage.php?pageid=1101 .

We will make decisions regarding the April Happy Hour, May Golf event and June Symposium in time as we continue to monitor the situation.

We believe that this is the right decision at this time.  I know we all look forward to when we are no longer living with this concern.  While market volatility and concern over the virus have increased, FPA National has also implemented a few programs on their end to help members stay connected.  The information below is from an e-mail FPA sent on 3/11.

For our members, we recently launched an online community called Navigating Market Turbulence Related to the Coronavirus where you can connect with your FPA peers through a hosted series of virtual discussions about best practices on supporting clients and access a curated library of content from the Journal of Financial Planning and other sources. And while we provide you with valuable practice-related information, we know that the financial downturn may impact some members’ ability to pay their FPA membership dues. Because we believe it’s so important during times like this for members to stay connected with their peers, in the coming weeks we will offer a financial hardship option for those members who need time to get their financial legs underneath them.

For our members and chapters, we have launched a Volatility Resource Center that provides various resources and information that will be of assistance to you. Whether you’re a member looking to navigate the turmoil for your business or clients, or you’re a chapter leader or chapter executive looking to make the best decisions possible for your local members and programs, FPA wants to be your partner. Content will be added to this page frequently, so please bookmark the page and come back often.

I apologize for any inconvenience or disappointment this change and potential future changes may cause.  We are working to find a new date for the March program and will notify you of one as soon as possible.  I wish you all well and good health.

Best wishes,
Parker Trasborg, CFP®
2020 FPA NCA President
