Gary Altman, Esq. is the Founder and Principal Attorney of the estate planning law firm, Altman & Associates, where he has been serving the Washington metropolitan area, practicing law since 1980 and estate planning since 1988.

The firm’s practice is dedicated to all aspects of estate law: estate planning; tax planning; charitable planning; premarital agreements; business succession planning; special needs planning; elder law; asset protection strategies; reformation of irrevocable trusts and failed estate plans; trust beneficiary and fiduciary representation; trust and probate administration; and fiduciary litigation. Gary and his team of four lawyers have in excess of 70 years combined experience in estate planning and trust and probate administration.

As an industry leader, Gary has taught various estate planning courses to attorneys, accountants and financial planners. He is currently on the board of Hope Connections for Cancer Support. Gary has previously served as the President of the National Capital Area Chapter of the Financial Planning Association and the National Capital Chapter of the Society for Financial Service Professionals. In 2015, he was a member of Leadership Montgomery’s Core Program.

Gary earned his Master of Law in Taxation (LLM) Degree from Georgetown University Law School and his law degree (J.D.) from the New York University School of Law in New York City. He completed a Bachelor of Science degree at Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT. He also became a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional in 1986.

Gary resides in Potomac, MD with his wife Liz and their two Labrador retrievers. He enjoys spending his free time playing racket sports, reading, gardening, and restoring his pre-civil war historic home. Gary is a wine aficionado and enjoys BBQing and making homemade brick oven pizzas for friends and colleagues.
